Summary
A Sooke hiker was safe after spending a night in East Sooke Park. Sooke RCMP were contacted by relatives of 27-year-old Timothy John Dunbar of Seagirt Road in East Sooke when he failed to return from a hike on the Wednesday night. Dunbar became lost but eventually found his own way out about 6:10 a.m. on the Thursday, reaching his car in the parking lot off Pike Road. An RCMP dogmaster and his tracking dog, members of the Langford emergency search and rescue team, and volunteer citizens combed the park all night in an effort to locate Dunbar.

Archivist's note
Names the Langford emergency search and rescue team, not a Sooke team, working East Sooke Park in July 1980 - eight months after the Victoria Times article that the archive reads as naming a Sooke Search and Rescue team. Whether Sooke and Langford teams coexisted, or whether the 1979 reference is to something less formal, is unresolved by the documents on hand.
