Summary

A profile of a Victoria investment adviser who volunteers as a search and rescue trainer and manager, and who would "much rather be jangled awake at 2 a.m. during a rainstorm by a phone call sending her out looking for a lost hiker." Her husband Tony is search manager for Metchosin search and rescue, and the couple have volunteered their outdoor skills - orienteering, bush navigation, practical tracking - along with their energy and community spirit to land-based searches for lost hikers, wandering old folks, kidnap victims and suicides. "Twenty-four hours a day, when we get [a call] in bed, we'd be gone in 15 minutes," she says; the article refers to eleven years as a Victoria search and rescue trainer and manager, and to equipment paid for out of her own pocket.

Archivist's note

The catalogue had flagged this article because the legible text describes a Victoria investment adviser whose husband manages Metchosin search and rescue, which did not obviously match PEOPLE_INDEX.md's attribution of a quote from it to Vickie Weber. The scan confirms that the article covers three people - Susan Knowler, Vickie Weber and Linda Hillard - so both readings were right: the profile's main subject is Knowler, and Weber is in the article, which is why the people index quote stands. See conflicts.md C-18b.

Archive notes

Shared page with heavy column bleed (119 OCR blocks). The summary reports only what is legible and deliberately does not attribute quotations, because the article moves between three people and the OCR cannot reliably tell which is speaking. Best available text is 00_admin/ocr/ocr_1998-05-16_times_colonist_p25_sar_volunteer_manager_nurse.txt (legibility 0.933).
