Summary

A man with a severely broken leg was rescued on the Friday. The rope-rescue team from Sooke Search and Rescue responded to a call from ambulance personnel who were unable to reach the man because of the difficult terrain. Victoria Webber, a search manager with the search-and-rescue team, said the eight-member rope crew was able to bring the man to a place where the medical team could help him. He was then taken to Victoria General Hospital.

Archivist's note

Dated four months before the CRD advertised its intention to adopt Bylaw No. 3101, and five months before the bylaw was adopted, this article still calls the team "Sooke Search and Rescue" - useful for dating the changeover in the team's public name. The rescued man wrote a letter of thanks that the Times Colonist published on 2003-05-18 (also in this archive), which identifies the location as Cabin Point in East Sooke Park.
