Summary
A letter to the editor from the man rescued in the 10 May article "Injured man rescued after cliff fall", expressing gratitude to all concerned in his rescue. He caught his boot while rock-hopping down near the sea at Cabin Point in East Sooke Park, suffered a compound fracture and could not stand up. One of his party had a cellphone and called for help immediately; both a paramedic team from Sooke and a team from the East Sooke Volunteer Fire Department were there in about half an hour, "a responsiveness that impressed me". They were able to provide excellent first aid and support about three hours after the fall, but quickly concluded that they would need the help of Sooke Search and Rescue to move him over the hazardous terrain.

Archivist's note
A rare first-person account from a rescued subject, and the document that supplies the location and mechanism of the 2003-05-10 rescue. Together the two articles are the best-documented single incident in the archive's formation year. The letter-writer's name was not legible at the foot of the letter; he is identified as Charles Douglas by the Jack Knox column of 2003-10-16 held in this archive, which recounts the same rescue at Cabin Point.
