Archivist's note

The companion piece to the July 2005 Talarico death notice, and the article that connects him explicitly to the search and rescue group through Mark Wilson's recollection. The 7 July date given for the group's departure from the Sooke Potholes parking lot is the day Talarico died according to his death notice.

Shared page: the scan is a full newspaper page whose other content is unrelated. The summary describes only this article. OCR quality 0.693 with severe column bleed; the summary is limited to passages legible with confidence. The search and rescue group is referred to in the legible text only as "the search and rescue group" without being named; Juan de Fuca Ground Search and Rescue is listed in organizations on the strength of TABLE_OF_CONTENTS.md, which describes this file as a hikers item with a "JDF GSAR + Sooke mention". Flagged for confirmation against the page image.
