Summary
A body was recovered after a man named Doherty was reported missing. "It appears he may have had a heart attack," said Cpl. Laurie Jalbert of Sooke RCMP. Bill Meikle of Juan de Fuca search and rescue said he got the call for assistance at about 10 p.m. on the Saturday. "It was too dark to try and look for anything that night," said Meikle; he gathered searchers at the site early the next morning to begin a search. The body was found in water not deep enough for Doherty to be over his head, and searchers recovered it under the direction of the coroner and RCMP. The article notes that annual call volumes can go from none to a dozen and include drownings and people getting into trouble.

Archivist's note
The earliest article in the archive to use the name "Juan de Fuca search and rescue" for the team - three years after Bylaw 3101 and two years after the 2004 article still called it Sooke Search and Rescue. It is also the first of the Bill Meikle sequence that runs through 2006 and 2007.
