Summary

The five-day search for a missing East Sooke man came to a tragic end on the Wednesday when his body was found in the waters of Anderson Cove, near Gillespie [Road]. About 50 searchers scoured the area near Woods's Gillespie Road home, walked the Galloping Goose trail, interviewed neighbours and trekked through dense forest. "We go out and always hope the outcome is really positive," said Farr, who co-ordinated the effort. Rescuers came from nine Vancouver Island communities to assist in the search. Search crews consisted of coast guard members on the water, hikers, and people on all-terrain vehicles and in a helicopter. Wednesday's search focused on an area near Gillespie Road.

The earliest article in the archive to name Kathryn Farr, and it names her as the person co-ordinating the search — six years before the 2018 Sugarloaf rescue where she is called a search manager, and eight before the 2020 profile that lists her as deputy SAR manager. It also records nine Vancouver Island communities responding, an early instance of the mutual-aid pattern that recurs through the modern record. This page was recovered from inside the ProQuest bulk export already held in the archive, where it had been listed as referenced but not held.
