Summary
Four Victoria residents (two men, two women) got lost on a day hike Saturday in Sooke and endured five hours in nighttime cold before rescue. One of the men injured his knee and could no longer walk after the group became disoriented more than 10 kilometres from their starting point at Sooke Potholes Provincial Park. Const. Andrew Moore of Sooke RCMP took the first 911 call at 5:22 p.m. Cell service was cutting in and out; drop calls came in from Leechtown and Boneyard Lake. The group was found near Boneyard Lake on a logging road, having crossed the Sooke River. Juan De Fuca Search and rescue, Saanich police, and B.C. Ambulance were involved. "We located them at 10:15 last night," Moore said. The injured man did not require hospital treatment.
