“Search on for dog missing from shipwrecked sailboat”, Times Colonist, p. A5, 31 December 2022 ref-only

Summary

A pet rescue group was looking for a dog that went missing after a sailboat was shipwrecked west of Jordan River that week. Ferrari, an older male Rottweiler, was one of three dogs aboard the vessel when it grounded at Sam Simon Point in the Mystic Beach–China Beach area late on the Tuesday. A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter rescued the boat's lone occupant and one of the dogs that night, then plucked a second dog from the shore the next morning, but Ferrari was not found. On the Friday, the man from the sailboat, having been released from hospital, was joined by members of Reuniting Owners with Animals Missing — ROAM [in the search].

Archivist's note

Not a Juan de Fuca Search and Rescue call, and included because the ProQuest search returned it: a shipwreck in the team's response area handled by the U.S. Coast Guard, with the follow-up search for a missing dog run by a volunteer pet-recovery group. It is a reminder of how much emergency response along this coast is cross-border and how the archive's search terms catch adjacent events. This page was recovered from inside the ProQuest bulk export already held in the archive, where it had been listed as referenced but not held.

Archive notes

This is a full newspaper page and carries unrelated stories as well as the article summarised here. The text is the OCR made from the ProQuest bulk export during the 2026 research phase, not a fresh pass. Recovered from page 42 of the bulk export. Juan de Fuca Search and Rescue is not named in this article; it is held because the ProQuest search returned the page.
