Summary
A surfer suffered a severe lower-body injury at Sombrio Beach and was rescued by Juan de Fuca Search and Rescue on Friday Dec. 5, 2025. The team said on social media that Sombrio Beach has large, submerged rocks and boulders that pose significant hazards, especially in heavier conditions, and thanked everyone who offered items to help keep the surfer warm while the team was en route. The team followed up Sunday night with its annual lighted-truck convoy across Greater Victoria, raising funds for local food banks, thanking everyone who came out for the parade.
