Summary

Nominations for the year's Order of B.C. and Medal of Good Citizenship were being accepted until 7 April. The Medal of Good Citizenship recognizes people whose volunteerism, generosity and other contributions have a positive effect on the world around them; both youth nominations for 15- to 25-year-olds and posthumous nominations can be included. The Order of B.C. was created in 1989 and has had 530 appointees in the years since, while the Medal of Good Citizenship was first given out in 2015 and has been awarded to a total of 193 people, two communities and one group. Saanich resident Victoria Clarke, who earned the Medal of Good Citizenship in 2025 for her contributions to [Juan de Fuca Search and Rescue], is quoted: "I feel honoured to be nominated for this honour," she said. "It's a reminder that in making a contribution to your community, you will always get so much more back."

Archivist's note

The Times Colonist follow-up to the Sooke News Mirror report of 2025-08-21, which announced Victoria Clarke's 2025 Medal of Good Citizenship and recorded that under her leadership since 2022 member retention rose to 91 per cent across 70-plus calls and 225 training events. This article is where a provincial honours story uses her as its example.

Shared page: the scan is a full newspaper page whose other content is unrelated. The summary describes only this article. p.D6 carries unrelated items including an astronomical-observatory eclipse feature and a golf-club award item, which bleed into the OCR. The scan also contains a duplicated band of text - two paragraphs are printed twice - which is an artefact of the source scan rather than the OCR. OCR quality 0.93. Matched to ProQuest bulk page ocr_bulk-010.txt with 0.83 body overlap.
