Summary
A 14-year-old Sooke boy reported missing Feb. 18, 2026 was found safe and sound shortly before 10:45 a.m. Feb. 19. Juan de Fuca, Metchosin, Cowichan, Ladysmith, Nanaimo, Peninsula and Royal Canadian Marine search and rescue teams helped Mounties in the search. Juan de Fuca Search and Rescue coordinator Victoria Clarke said the team was extremely grateful he was found safe and returned to his family. Mounties requested JDF SAR's help around 12:30 a.m. Feb. 19, asking locals to check their properties; community members began searching independently at 3 p.m. Feb. 18, and volunteer Lisa Nilsson said over 100 people were out by 9 p.m., calling it an opportunity for the community to come together. The boy was found in an abandoned home by local resident Steve Anderson, who described following a for-sale sign up a driveway to an empty house.
