PHOTOS: Juan de Fuca Search and Rescue introduces new ground crew

Juan de Fuca SAR welcomed a new intake of ground search and rescue members starting training in September 2025, training two to three times a week to build operational skills. The new members' training culminated in a challenging overnight survival exam the weekend before publication, after which Juan de Fuca SAR announced the new members on social media, saying they demonstrated core competencies including stretcher carries, fire building and land navigation, and that each member constructed a survival shelter and maintained a fire overnight using only the equipment in their 24-hour packs. The team restated its standing description as unpaid professionals on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to respond to land-based emergencies including missing and injured people.
