Summary
A hiker was rescued from the popular Juan de Fuca trail on Monday afternoon after suffering a lower leg injury. Juan de Fuca Search and Rescue (JFSAR) was called to the Mystic Beach Trail area of the larger Juan de Fuca Marine Trail for a report of an injured day hiker. "Upon arrival, our team, alongside paramedics from BCEHS, provided patient care before safely transporting the subject by stretcher to a waiting ambulance," said JFSAR in a social media post. The Juan de Fuca Marine Trail stretches some 47 kilometres across the southwest coast of Vancouver Island, from China Beach near Jordan River to Botanical Beach near Port Renfrew. The Juan de Fuca trailhead is located near Mystic Beach, which is one of the few campsites still open due to storm damage from fall 2024. Five other campsites have been closed for more than a year. "The trail is unsafe and impassable, with damaged bridges, unstable slopes, washouts, fallen trees, and blocked sections," reads the BC Parks website (last updated Oct. 16, 2025).
