Two incidents of hikers rescued in Sooke this past week

Over the past week, Juan de Fuca Search and Rescue responded to two separate incidents of calls for help from hikers in Sooke. On the afternoon of July 28, a hiker was rescued in East Sooke Regional Park after suffering an ankle injury; JFSAR responded to the call, medical assistance was provided, and the team carried the hiker out on a stretcher. "Our subject was in great spirits despite her injury, and we wish her a speedy recovery," said JFSAR in a social media post. "Thanks to all those who stopped to help the hiker until our team arrived." On July 24, JFSAR responded to a late-night call for four hikers who became lost while hiking the Sea to Sea Regional Park in Sooke; the hikers got turned around because of the park's intertwining trail system, called for help and sheltered until the team arrived. In a social media post, JFSAR reminded the public that smartphones can produce map coordinates to help search and rescue teams pinpoint locations.
