Summary

Search and rescue crews resumed a search on the Saturday for a missing Montreal man whose rented motorhome was found at China Beach on the Friday. Twenty-seven Juan de Fuca search-and-rescue volunteers were in the area until midnight on the Friday looking for Jean-Michel Cabanes, who was last seen on 14 October in Saanich. The 70-year-old was reported missing after he failed to return the rented motorhome as expected on the Tuesday and did not board his flight home to Montreal on the Thursday. Saanich police believed the motorhome had been parked at China Beach for one week.

Archivist's note

The archive's largest recorded single turnout of Juan de Fuca volunteers: twenty-seven, working until midnight. Note on the missing man's surname: this article prints "Cabanes", and a direct read of the follow-up's page image on 2026-08-06 confirms the Nov. 2 article also prints "Cabanes" — the previously recorded "Cabunes" in the follow-up and in PEOPLE_INDEX.md was an artifact of the bulk-export OCR (see conflicts.md C-32). This page was recovered from inside the ProQuest bulk export already held in the archive, where it had been listed as referenced but not held.
