Summary

The week's rescue of a student who fell on a school hike on the Juan de Fuca Trail and had to be carried out on a stretcher for about four hours is a reminder of the trail's dangers. [Juan de Fuca Search and Res]cue was notified of the incident about 5:30 p.m. on the Wednesday after a 911 cellphone call was passed along by the B.C. Ambulance Service. Co-ordinator Victoria Clarke said 13 Juan de Fuca team members responded and were joined by four people from Metchosin Search and Rescue.

Archivist's note

One of the few articles that gives exact turnout figures — thirteen Juan de Fuca members and four from Metchosin — and the length of the carry, about four hours. It is the clearest single measure in the archive of what a stretcher evacuation from the trail actually costs in people and time. This page was recovered from inside the ProQuest bulk export already held in the archive, where it had been listed as referenced but not held.
